You can access them by the pressing ALT+Fx, where Fx is a function key from F1 to F7. - To start X Window, type `startx'. X Window is on the 8th console (ALT+F8). To leave X and enjoy with the virtual terminals, please, press CTRL+ALT+Fx (from F1 to F6). Quick X-shutdown is possible by CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE. You can change resolution in X by the CTRL+ALT+ or . If you want, you may start X with another color depth by typing `startx -- -bpp xxx', where xxx is one of 8, 16, 32 (8 is default). Be sure, that /etc/XF86Config is correct. You may generate a new XF86Config by using `xf86config' command. `SuperProbe' may check type of your videocard. Command `xvidtune' under X may help you with tunning your videocard. - X Window requires at least 12MB RAM total memory (include swap). Monkey uses M$ Windows swap-file or try make own /SWAP. If you do not want to use M$ swap-file, simply create file /etc/nomsswap (by the command `touch /etc/nomsswap'). - Many Unix commands are similar to their DOS equivalents: cp = copy, rm = del, cat = type, more = more, mkdir = mkdir, rmdir = rmdir, cd = cd, mv = move, ls = dir BEWARE: in Unix the / is a / and not a \ - The equivalents of DOS' AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS are the file /etc/inittab and files under directory /etc/rc.d - If you dislike vi (...!!!), you can use joe (Wordstar compatibile word processor). - If you have got non-3c59x compatible Ethernet card, modify /etc/modules.conf (line with eth0) to load the other module by kerneld. Also the recompilation of kernel is possible (packages gccall and kern2029). You must set the correct I/O for using ne module for NE1000/2000 compatible cards. - The directory / under Linux is \LINUX directory in your DOS. The rest of your DOS drive you can find in the /DOS directory. - Primary site: ftp://ftp.spsselib.hiedu.cz/pub/linux/monkey/ Mirror sites: ftp://ftp.vslib.cz/pub/linux/monkey/ ftp://sunsite.mff.cuni.cz/OS/Linux/Distributions/Monkey/ ftp://sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux/Distributions/monkey/ - Buy some good book about Unix commands or try some interesting URL for help: Czech language: http://www.paru.cas.cz/~hubicka/skolicky/ English: ftp://sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux/docs/ ftp://sunsite.unc.edu/LDP/ - This is /help file near LINUX.BAT (which is the Gate to Heaven).
